What if Napoleon Bonaparte never rose to power?

Point of Divergence

While visiting his disease-ridden soldiers, Napoleon Bonaparte contracts the bubonic plague, dying on 14 March 1799.

Without Napoleon's coup, the Directory continues its unstable rule until June 1800, when the "Republican Club," led by General Jean-Baptiste Jourdan and Jean Victor Moreau, launched a coup of their own and abolished the Directory. Moreau would assume the title of "Provisional President of France" until the end of the French Revolutionary War in 1802. Moreau would be elected to the presidency after the ratification of the French Constitution in 1803, defeating his colleague Jourdan.
