  • 13 April – Port Arthur, China: Admiral Stepan Makarov decides to return earlier to Port Arthur as the fog sets in and urges caution as his ship navigates the mines, arriving safely in port.

  • 27 May – Tsushima Strait, Japan: The Battle of Tsushima begins between Japanese and Russian fleets.
  • 28 May – Tsushima Strait, Japan: The outnumbered Russian fleets battle to a draw. While suffering more losses than the Japanese, the Japanese Navy failed to deliver a crushing blow to the Russians.
July
  • 15 July – Tokyo, Japan: The delegations of Japan and Britain agree to renew the Anglo-Japanese Alliance for five more years, and would pend renewal in 1910.
